A Garden in Gooseberry Hill is the first book in the Read and Chat memory-friendly reading series. It follows requests for a dementia-friendly book on gardening.
It features Perth Hills artist Georgia Efford, a lifelong keen gardener, and the beautiful garden she and her husband created from a bare paddock. Georgia’s vibrant photos are matched with her own short reflections on gardens and gardening, and cover a range of topics. Each page begins with a question, to start discussion. For example, What do you grow to give away? or Are you a gloves gardener, or bare hands? As every garden around the world is different, so are the stories that gardeners have to tell.
Perfect for current or past gardeners now living with dementia or other concentration challenges. When conversation about the recent past becomes a challenge, this book will prompt them to share their gardening expertise and funny stories.

40 pages, extra large font, in a a bright, slim, light, 8 x 10 paperback.
No reference to dementia (or other illness) anywhere inside the book, or on the cover. The back cover says simply: “Read and chat as you find out more about Georgia’s garden. Perhaps you have your own thoughts on gardening to share.”
Georgia received an OAM for her work with the Uthando Project; https://uthandoproject.org
She has asked that all profits from this book go to this wonderful cause.
