The Horse’s Mouth

Quirky Illustrated Traditional Sayings…

This book follows on from the other four books in the series which starts with The Early Bird, with more quizzes about traditional English sayings. This time these are quirky sayings, that might not make sense to someone from another culture.

These books are for anyone with moderate cognitive impairment (or regaining reading skills after stroke). They may be able to read a sentence or two, and they’ll enjoy knowing the answers to the quiz questions and commenting on the photos. It can be fun to share with grandchildren, testing their knowledge too!

However, a lot of the value also comes from the evocative, quirky or heartwarming photographs, and the chance to have a conversation about something that doesn’t require short-term memory. A picture of ‘They’re off on a wild goose chase’ might lead to reminiscence about geese in a nearby farm as a child. Or you might want to chat about what this saying means to you and to them.

Each set of seven themed sayings starts with a ‘quick quiz’ page, with a missing word. You can read this aloud to your loved one (who may well supply all the missing words). If you prefer, you can say, “Let’s read on, and find out the answers…then you can test me later!”

40 pages, extra large font, in a a bright, slim, light, 8 x 10 paperback.

No reference to dementia (or other illness) anywhere inside the book, or on the cover. The back cover says simply: “Do you know these quirky old-time English expressions and sayings? Try the quizzes, to keep your mind active or maybe learn something new!”

You can find The Horse’s Mouth on Amazon using universal link https://mybook.to/HorsesMouthSayings or ask your library to look for ISBN number: 9781922191632
