Learn about Dementia

If you’re wanting to learn more about dementia, I can recommend the MOOC!. A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course – an online course that anyone can study – and the Wicking Dementia Centre at the University of Tasmania has free MOOCs on:

  • Understanding Dementia (just updated!)
  • Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Preventing Dementia

I was studying the Understanding Dementia Course, but stopped to wait for the updated course, so now I’m getting the latest information. It has been so interesting, especially learning about different types of dementia, and what it means to be a care partner, and I really encourage anyone to do it. It’s totally free and you can be living anywhere, not just in Australia.

Of course, a MOOC is usually an introductory course. Those who want to take if further from a professional perspective, they can go on to formal academic study online at UTAS. For Australians, the Diploma of Dementia Care is actually free of tuition fees in 2026 (100% HECS scholarship).
